National Pledge Campaign Asks Over 1,000 Federal Candidates to Tackle Corruption in Washington

Across the country, politicians and candidates are waking up to the fact that Americans overwhelmingly want them to champion the 28th Amendment to end legalized corruption and create a government accountable to the people, not corporations and special interests.

So far, over 75 candidates have pledged to use their office to support the amendment, and this is only the beginning!

Yesterday, American Promise sent the Pledge to over 1,000 federal candidates, and we need your help to make sure they, and many more candidates at all levels of government sign it.

“Have you pledged to use your office to represent people, not big donors?” That’s the question American Promise members are asking their elected officials and candidates ahead of the 2018 midterm election. Will they pledge to use their office to advance the 28th Amendment or not? That’s the only way we’ll get the cross-partisan support in Congress to win the 28th Amendment so that people not money govern America.

Money in elections is a critical problem that needs urgent reform. Right now, the Supreme Court says we are prohibited from setting limits to money in our politics because money is free speech. The 28th Amendment is the only way to allow Congress and state legislatures to set common sense, fair limits on political spending in a comprehensive and permanent way.

Americans overwhelmingly support curbing the undue influence of money in our elections. So far, 19 state legislatures and over 800 cities and counties all over the country have passed resolutions calling for the 28th Amendment, and polling consistently shows that 80% of Americans agree we need to do something about this.
