The widespread support for pro-democracy initiatives in the midterm elections shows that Americans are ready to enshrine political power for people into our Constitution. In an upcoming sold-out, live-streamed Constitutional debate, you will hear why American Promise believes amending our Constitution is the foundation we need for a truer, more representative democracy.

This month in a sold-out event at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, American Promise President Jeff Clements will convey his reasons for believing a Constitutional amendment is our best strategy for claiming political rights for people, not big money.

Jeff will join three co-debaters—his partner on the pro-amendment side, Elizabeth Doty, business leader and co-founder of the American Promise Bay Area Business Council; and his esteemed opponents, Bradley Smith of the Institute of Free Speech and Floyd Abrams, Senior Counsel at Cahill Gorden & Reindel—for a debate around the future of our Constitution and the American Promise goal of amending the Constitution to allow the public and congress to limit the power of big money in politics. Constitutional law professor and author Ciara Torres-Spelliscy will moderate the debate.

This historic event is available for free live streaming, so anyone across the nation can join as we discuss the future of our democracy. This event is being co-hosted by American Promise, the American Constitution Society and the National Constitution Center. The event is part of the American Promise Writing the 28th program, through which we are gathering feedback from citizens across the nation on the amendment and what it should say.

Join us at Revolution House: If you’re in the Philadelphia area, join the viewing party at 6 p.m. at Revolution House for pre-event discussion, livestream of the debate, and post-debate next steps to get involved with this grassroots movement. After the debate, our friends at the National Constitution Center will join the party. You’ll meet Constitutional scholars, active American Promise Association citizen leaders from PA and NJ, and lots of people new to this issue wanting to learn more about how to get big money out of politics!
