I join the overwhelming majority of Americans to demand an amendment to the United States Constitution to end the domination of big money in politics and give voice to all Americans.

I will stand with all Americans, without regard to party or other differences, and urge all candidates and elected officials to do the same, in order to pass and ratify such a constitutional amendment as soon as possible.

Meet Azor Cole: American Promise State Manager

Meet Azor Cole: American Promise State Manager

June 12, 2019
Published By American Promise

As American Promise State Manager, Azor Cole leads our citizen-led, state-by-state strategy to win the next amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Azor works with Americans across the nation to grow grassroots support for the 28th Amendment at the state level, connecting citizen leaders, partner organizations and elected officials to build the movement to win the cause of our time: Ending the domination of big money and plutocracy and empowering Americans to assert our right to equal representation.

Read on as Azor discusses the importance of American Promise and shares the reasons he’s dedicated to winning the fight for a 28th Amendment.

Why is American Promise’s work important to you?

Codifying principles of political equality and equal representation into our country’s Constitution is the foundational first step to enable meaningful and lasting reform. If we hope to address the biggest issues our nation faces—the opioid crisis, underfunded education, income inequality, the climate crisis, devastating debt—we must first address the issue of big money in politics.

How does working to advance the 28th Amendment align with your personal and professional values/goals?

I value civic participation and see the damaging effects pay-to-play politics has on voter turnout and political engagement. Our democratic republic gets stronger with more participation, and the 28th Amendment is a chance to restore faith in government.

Why would you encourage people across America to join the movement to promote the 28th Amendment?

American Promise State Manager Azor Cole presents a Citizen Leadership Award to Ellen Greene Bush of the Port Clinton, Ohio, American Promise Association.

In fighting for the 28th Amendment, you are fighting alongside Americans of all political stripes. The majority of dark money advertisements are attack ads, painting a picture of a country divided. If you join this movement, you join a dedicated group of advocates putting aside political differences to rally around a project of historic proportions.

What is one of the main missions you hope to accomplish as a member of the American Promise team?

In my work as State Manager for American Promise, I hope to insert the 28th Amendment squarely into the conversation leading up to the 2020 presidential election. We’ll leverage this increased exposure into votes in Congress and legislative victories in purple states.

Why is it important to you to empower citizens to help make change in our nation, and why do you think citizens need to be able to make that change?

The 28th Amendment is a national project made up of local ones. Each local American Promise Association makes the next one stronger. Connecting grassroots leaders from coast to coast is how we turn one-off victories into a scalable movement.
