SUMMARY:It's Time to Address Financial Election Integrity in Wisconsin
DESCRIPTION:A LeaderEthics Event Featuring American Promise CEO Jeff Clements:\nThe increase in campaign spending has been growing dramatically in recent years. The April 1\, 2025 WI State Supreme Court election was by far the most expensive state judicial election in the nation’s history…nearly $100 million. Most of the funds came from wealthy out-of-state donors. The increased spending is leading to increased public concern at the state and national level. In 2025\, Utah passed a support resolution for the For Our Freedom constitutional amendment. Similar resolutions have been introduced in Texas and Minnesota. Last year\, the Wisconsin legislature came close to approving the campaign finance resolution\, and there is solid bipartisan support for this legislation in 2025. Don’t miss this timely and important effort to break the cycle of big-money influence in elections. \nJeff Clements serves as CEO of American Promise. He has practiced law for three decades in public service and private practice\, and is the author of numerous articles and a book on the constitutional solution to the crisis of money in American politics. He is the preeminent spokesperson for the fast-growing nonpartisan movement to amend the U.S. Constitution to enable Americans to end the crisis of money in politics\, and secure free speech\, representation and effective goverment. \nJudy Nagel formerly served as a Financial Advisor at Wells Fargo. She serves on the Wisconsin statewide committee for American Promise\, focusing on campaign finance reform. She is active with the Green Bay Rotary Club\, Vision Greater Green Bay and other statewide organizations \nSam Scinta will lead the moderated conversation. Sam teaches Rebuilding American Civics (a partner with LeaderEthics) through Viterbo University. \nWhen: 12pm on Wednesday\, May 7\, 2025\nWhere: Maplewood Room\, Black River Beach Center\, 1433 Rose Street\, La Crosse\, WI \nAdmission is free.
