Massachusetts State Pledge

I join the overwhelming majority of Massachusetts to demand an amendment to the United States Constitution to end the domination of big money in politics and give voice to all Americans.
I will stand with Massachusetts, without regard to party or other differences, and urge all candidates and elected officials to do the same, in order to pass and ratify such a constitutional amendment as soon as possible.

There are some studies, and this has been confirmed by friends of mine in Congress, that up to 60% of a Congressperson's time is spent raising money for the next campaign - meaning that time is not devoted to doing the business of the people who live in the district. There's something wrong with that.

Volunteering makes American Promise possible in Massachusetts.

Massachusetts American Promise volunteers have achieved stunning grassroots, cross-partisan victories across the state. In 2019, Massachusetts announced the non-partisan Citizen Commission, the result of a law passed by 71 percent of Massachusetts voters in a citizens ballot initiative. To place the question about the Commission on the ballot, more than 1,000 volunteers connected with hundreds of thousands of voters and collected over 130,000 signatures from every town in Massachusetts. The measure was endorsed by Republican Governor Charlie Baker and Democrati Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey. Find the first report by the Citizens Commission below.

Citizens Commission Report

First Report by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Citizens Commission Concerning a Constitutional Amendment for Government of the People In its first report, the Massachusetts Citizens Commission examines the implications of the overwhelming influence of political spending in the state, and how the influence of money has eroded the principle of fairness in our electoral process.
