He gave $5 million to MAGA Inc., Trump’s primary Super PAC, in June, the same day he gave the same amount to the Senate Leadership Fund and Congressional Leadership Fund, the main Super PACs supporting Republican candidates for Senate and House. The amount is still significantly lower than the total of nearly $250 million Musk spent supporting Trump’s 2024 campaign.

Ms. Li and her business partner, Lianbo Wang, received more than $30 million from foreign nationals who thought they were investing in an educational center and would receive green cards for their investment. Instead, Li used the money to make political contributions to Republicans, including a fundraising dinner with President Trump, and to cover personal expenses.

Some Democratic governors have also raised hundreds of thousands of dollars. One major expense for potential campaigns is purchasing lists of potential donors so that they can begin to raise large amounts of money when they officially launch, potentially right after the 2026 midterm elections.
