The Nevada state senate just passed SJR 4 urging Congress to propose an amendment to the United States Constitution to allow the regulation of independent political expenditures by corporations. It will now go to the Assembly. If it passes, Nevada will become the 19th state to support the 28th Amendment. Below is a statement from American Promise:
“Americans are tired of big money corrupting our government and we’re fighting for our right to be represented as equal citizens. We’re fighting for a 28th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution to get big money out of politics. Thanks to the citizens of Nevada and the leadership of State Senator Cannizzaro, we’re one step closer to winning. Just today, the Nevada Senate voted in favor of a resolution that would make it the 19th State to go on record to call for a 28th Amendment to overturn the Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling and end the influence of money in our government and elections. Big money control of our democracy is out of control. A 28th Amendment will return the power to the people.”
