I join the overwhelming majority of Americans to demand an amendment to the United States Constitution to end the domination of big money in politics and give voice to all Americans.

I will stand with all Americans, without regard to party or other differences, and urge all candidates and elected officials to do the same, in order to pass and ratify such a constitutional amendment as soon as possible.

American Promise CEO Jeff Clements Makes Statement on FEC Filings

More money and bigger war chests inevitably lead to more corruption, more influence by dark money interests, and less representation by everyday Americans. Which is why over 86% of Americans believe that the influence of money in politics is the major threat to our democracy.

“Today’s release of the Q3 Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings for congressional and presidential campaigns reinforces the problem America is up against – the unchecked, dominant influence of money in politics. These filings – and who has the bigger war chests – are treated as a proxy for support and influence leading to the upcoming presidential elections in 2024. But, in reality, the donor class money race is really a proxy for dysfunction and disconnection from American voters; the funds mostly come from an elite donor group and don’t reflect support or engagement from most Americans.

More money and bigger war chests inevitably lead to more corruption, more influence by dark money interests, and less representation by everyday Americans. Which is why over 86% of Americans believe that the influence of money in politics is the major threat to our democracy.

These filings should be a quarterly reminder to the American people that elected officials — on both sides of the political spectrum — are so focused on indiscriminate fundraising instead of tackling a myriad of issues Americans are contending with at this very moment. We urge all candidates to listen to millions of Americans and join the movement to end unlimited campaign spending.”
