I join the overwhelming majority of Americans to demand an amendment to the United States Constitution to end the domination of big money in politics and give voice to all Americans.

I will stand with all Americans, without regard to party or other differences, and urge all candidates and elected officials to do the same, in order to pass and ratify such a constitutional amendment as soon as possible.

American Promise Announces Bill Moyers as Keynote Speaker at 1st Annual National Citizen Leadership Conference

Washington, D.C. — Bill Moyers, award-winning broadcast journalist, author, former Press Secretary in the Johnson administration, and one of the most astute political commentators of our times will be a keynote speaker at the 1st annual National Citizen Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C.

“I look forward to joining the many Americans coming together at the National Citizen Leadership Conference in their fight to win the 28th Amendment,” Moyers said. “This Amendment will overturn the Supreme Court’s fabrication of special rights for money and corporations, and give us fair elections and equal rights for all Americans in our political system for generations to come.”

Moyers leads a list of participants that include Congressman Jim McGovern (D-MA), Fmr. Congressman Jim Leach (R-Iowa), Congresswoman Donna Edwards (D-MD), Reverend Katharine Henderson, President of Auburn Theological Seminary, Ben Cohen, co-founder of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, and many more.

Registration is now open for the Conference, which will be hosted at the Renaissance Washington, D.C. Downtown Hotel from September 30 through October 2, 2016. The non-partisan, nonprofit Conference will draw hundreds of people across the country to strategize, connect, deliberate, and build power to win a 28th Amendment to overturn Citizens United so that America is governed by people, not money.

Moyers’ years of insightful commentary and analysis have galvanized Americans to take action to address the crisis of undue influence of concentrated money and large corporations in American democracy. Moyers will discuss how big money and corporate interests have captured Washington creating a government that works for special interest, not the common good, and how Americans around the country are finding new common ground to restore the American Promise — a government of, by, and for the people.

“It is a great honor to have Bill Moyers join cross-partisan 28th amendment leaders in Congress, and leaders from national and state organizations working to win a 28th amendment.” Said Jeff Clements, the President and co-founder of American Promise and the host of the National Citizen Leadership Conference. “We’re thrilled to bring together hundreds of citizen leaders from across the country, across the political spectrum, and across generations to build support for this historic cause.”

Registration for the conference is free for American Promise members. Registration now is open to the public at an early-bird rate of $60 per person. All events will take place at the Renaissance Washington DC Downtown Hotel. To register or learn more about the National Citizen Leadership Conference visit www.AmericanPromise.net/nclc.

“Every generation of Americans has needed to use the Constitutional amendment process to renew the American Promise. Now it’s our turn,” said Clements.

The National Citizen Leadership Conference is sponsored by American Promise, a national, non-partisan, non-profit organization working to win a 28th Amendment to overturn Citizens United v. FEC and secure the political equality of all Americans.
