The Perils of Unregulated Money in Politics

Susan Beckett of American Promise will join The League of Women Voters of Northern Lower Michigan for a public forum on the Perils of Unregulated Money in Politics: Wednesday, September 13th 7:00-8:00 pm via Zoom.

Foreign money and a handful of ultra-wealthy individuals have increasing influence in American politics and government policies. Large financial donations buy significant favor from politicians, leaving the voices of ordinary citizens at a disadvantage.

Presenters include Nick Pigeon, Executive Director of the Michigan Campaign Finance Network, who will disclose some of the more egregious abuses of dark money in our state. Susan Beckett, American Promise activist, LWVNLM member and part of the LWVMI networking group on Dark Money, and Hank Mayers, President of Michiganders for Fair and Transparent Elections, will elaborate on the approaches that public groups are each taking to stem the flow of unregulated money in our elections.
