I join the overwhelming majority of Americans to demand an amendment to the United States Constitution to end the domination of big money in politics and give voice to all Americans.

I will stand with all Americans, without regard to party or other differences, and urge all candidates and elected officials to do the same, in order to pass and ratify such a constitutional amendment as soon as possible.

Statement on Elon Musk Political Contributions

Statement on Elon Musk Political Contributions

July 24, 2024
Published By American Promise

In response to Elon Musk’s announcement that he has created and is already amassing donations for his new Super PAC, American Promise – an organization committed to uniting Americans to ratify the For Our Freedom Amendment to empower the states and Congress to set reasonable limits on political spending, ensuring every American voice counts – issued the following statement:

“By creating this Super PAC – which serves only as a vehicle to funnel unlimited funds to support one political candidate – Mr. Musk is contributing to the deluge of money in our political system, and has already tapped into his wealthy circle of friends who share in the same objective: to purchase access and favor from the nominee they believe will best represent their interests.

“But Mr. Musk is not an anomaly. Across the political spectrum, wealthy donors donate millions of dollars to support candidates of their choosing, and while some may speculate this is simply out of the goodness of their hearts, it would be naïve to ignore the tremendous influence these donations have on candidates’ policy decisions.

“Our current pay-to-play system elevates the policy priorities of big money donors at the expense of the needs of everyday Americans. This corrupts our system of representative self-government at its core, with shockwaves radiating out to fuel a culture of voter apathy and political toxicity – inevitably creating a cyclical blockade that impedes legislative action to remedy this problem. The only effective solution is a constitutional amendment to enable states and Congress to set limits and disclosure rules for election spending.”
