I join the overwhelming majority of Americans to demand an amendment to the United States Constitution to end the domination of big money in politics and give voice to all Americans.

I will stand with all Americans, without regard to party or other differences, and urge all candidates and elected officials to do the same, in order to pass and ratify such a constitutional amendment as soon as possible.

Jeff Clements, CEO of American Promise, issued the following statement in response to the introduction of S.C.R. 28 and H.C.R. 79 in Texas:

“Texans—not foreign actors and out-of-state special interests—should have ultimate control over their state’s elections. Republican Senator Angela Paxton and Republican Representative Terri Leo Wilson took a step to reclaim that authority in Texas by introducing S.C.R. 28 and H.C.R. 79. These companion resolutions call on Congress to amend the U.S. Constitution so states can control whether and how to regulate election spending within their own borders. 76% of Texans support such an amendment.

“By introducing these resolutions, Texas joins legislatures across the country that are fighting to reclaim their authority over political spending. Arizona, Oklahoma, Utah, and Wyoming have considered similar resolutions this year, with Utah becoming the first to pass a resolution out of both chambers. These states’ resolutions cite the need to counter the explosion of outside spending in local elections by foreign actors and out-of-state special interests, while addressing the erosion of state powers at the hands of unelected judges in D.C.

“We thank Senator Paxton and Representative Leo Wilson for their leadership in introducing these resolutions and for standing up for Texas voters, and we urge the Senate and House to support S.C.R. 28 and H.C.R. 79. If adopted, Texas will become the 24th state to urge Congress to support an amendment.”
