Donna the Buffalo to Perform at NCLC

WASHINGTON, D.C. — American roots music troubadours, Donna the Buffalo will perform on Saturday, October 1 at the at the Renaissance Washington, D.C. Downtown Hotel as part of the 1st annual National Citizen Leadership Conference. The non-partisan, nonprofit Conference will draw hundreds of people across the country to strategize, connect, deliberate, and build power to win a 28th Amendment to overturn Citizens United so that America is governed by people, not money.

In 2015, the band teamed up with Peter Rowan and Ben Cohen, Co-Founder of Ben & Jerry’s, for a unique tour to raise awareness about the undue influence of corporate money in politics. “As a band, we have made a long term commitment to join this burgeoning movement,” says Jeb Puryear of Donna the Buffalo. “the National Citizens Leadership Conference is the next step to help empower people to take action and reclaim our democracy.”

“This is not just about strategizing how we win a 28th Amendment, it’s about celebrating the huge grassroots successes that our movement has achieved over the last six years.” Said Jeff Clements, the President and co-founder of American Promise and the host of the National Citizen Leadership Conference. “There is no better way to do that than with a night of entertainment and American roots music with Donna the Buffalo.”

17 states have called on Congress to pass a 28th Amendment to overturn Citizens United. The Democratic nominee for President, Hillary Clinton, and more than 200 Members of Congress have endorsed the amendment strategy.

“This past April, 84 percent of voters in Janesville, Wisconsin, approved 28th Amendment resolutions. Janesville is the hometown of Republican Congressman and speaker of the house, Paul Ryan.” Said Jeff Clements, “Similar resolutions have passed with similar levels of support in 700 cities and towns across the country.”

The Conference will feature a number of bi-partisan leaders that includes Bill Moyers, Congressman Jim McGovern (D-MA), Fmr. Congressman Jim Leach (R-Iowa), Congresswoman Donna Edwards (D-MD) Reverend Katharine Henderson, President of Auburn Theological Seminary, Ben Cohen, co-founder of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, and many more.
