I join the overwhelming majority of Americans to demand an amendment to the United States Constitution to end the domination of big money in politics and give voice to all Americans.

I will stand with all Americans, without regard to party or other differences, and urge all candidates and elected officials to do the same, in order to pass and ratify such a constitutional amendment as soon as possible.

Another installment in our series of stories about how our elections are being bought out from under us and all that matters is fundraising and the donor class.

Who Are the Biggest Donors to Trump and Harris?

From The New York Times:
This article from the NYT provides a look into the top donors to both sides of the presidential election — billionaires who are able to deploy massive amounts of money that can have a significant impact on the race. Major donors backing former President Trump include Timothy Mellon, who has provided money to both Trump and RFK Jr., and Elon Musk. Major donors to Vice President Harris include Reid Hoffman, the co-founder of LinkedIn, George Soros, a mainstay of Democratic political fundraising, and Alex Soros, his son.

Iran Emerges as a Top Disinformation Threat in U.S. Presidential Race

From The New York Times:
As the US election season heats up, and the media environment becomes increasingly saturated with attack ads, there is also an increase in online disinformation from foreign actors seeking to influence our elections. The NYT details how Iran is stepping up its foreign influence efforts, intending to sow discord and misinformation in the US through social media campaigns, fake news, and targeted hacking of campaign and government officials.

Harris’ campaign shares $24.5M with down-ballot Democratic races

From Axios:
After seeing significant fundraising success following President Biden’s decision to drop out of the presidential race, Vice President Harris’ campaign is sharing funds with other Democratic campaign committees, including giving $10 million each to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. These funds are intended to produce wins in down-ballot races for Democrats.

Texas oil regulator sets new $9.2M fundraising record with energy industry support

From OpenSecrets:
Christi Craddick, the chair of the Texas Railroad Commission, which oversees the state’s oil and gas industry, set a new fundraising record this year. Craddick raised almost $9.2 million, beating the previous record held by her own 2016 campaign, which raised $6.14 million. A report by Commission Shift, a nonprofit concerned with oil and gas oversight in Texas, alleges four incidents in which Craddick oversaw matters concerning companies that were donating to her campaign.

House and Senate Republicans are starting to panic about a huge money gap with Democrats

From POLITICO:
Congressional Republican leadership is asking their donors for more money, to compete with Democrats who have a substantial lead in fundraising for the 2024 elections. The head of the largest Super PAC backing House Republicans has asked donors for $35 million more in contributions, while other members of campaign leadership are sounding the alarm as Democrats are able to deploy more money on campaign ads in key battleground races. Democrats’ House Majority PAC has spent more than $210 million in ad reservations, while Republicans’ Congressional Leadership Fund has spent $140 million. In the Arizona Senate race, Democrats are outspending Republicans by $57 million, and enjoy a $41 million lead in each race in the Nevada and Wisconsin Senate elections.
