Ben Cohen in Boston to Support Statewide Ballot Initiative

People Govern, Not Money’s citizen-led, volunteer signature collecting effort is in full force. Over 750 volunteers are active statewide, flexing their civic muscles so the 4.5 million Bay State voters have the opportunity to assert that corporations are not people, money is not speech, and neither be treated as such on the 2018 state ballot.

On Monday, Nov 3rd, the campaign will get a sweet boost. Ben Cohen, co-founder of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream and Head Stamper at Stamp Stampede, will be in town, dishing out free ice cream and excitement to get us over the finish line. He’s sure to draw MA voters, and we’ll be collecting signatures all weekend!

Ballot initiatives are our most direct form of democracy, and citizen all across the country are using this civic tool to advance the 28th Amendment. Citizens in Montana, Colorado, Washington, and California have overwhelmingly won ballot initiates calling on Congress to overturn the effects of Citizens United v. FEC (2010) and ensure political equality for all Americans.

Currently, citizen leaders in Massachusetts and Wyoming are lighting it up, channeling the political will we know exists on this issue into tangible, civic achievement. This is citizenship in action, and it’s just what’s needed to reclaim our democracy.
