ACTION ALERT: Next Steps in New Hampshire

Concord, New Hampshire – January 17th, 2018 – New Hampshire citizens braved the snowstorm and showed up to the Concord Statehouse in support of HB 1524, a bill advocating for a constitutional amendment to end legalized corruption and address partisan gerrymandering. The bill will likely be put to a vote in the State-Federal Relations and Veterans Affairs committee within the next week, and it’s up to us to make our voice heard.

Over 800 cities and towns nationwide, including 77 in New Hampshire, and 19 states have urged Congress to pass this 28th Amendment to secure free and fair elections and prioritize the rights of people over the privileges afforded to concentrated wealth and power.   • Write a letter to the editor laying out of the problem of money in politics, explaining how HB 1524 is part of a larger solution

“The super rich deserve no more or less representation than the rest of us, and yet we have come to a place where the more money one has the more one’s needs and concerns are addressed by our representatives,” wrote Ella McGrail, New Hampshire native and American Promise Advisory Council Member, in testimony supporting HB 1524.

In a working democracy, we are citizens, not consumers. As citizens, it’s our job to make sure our elected officials respond to people, not profits, and HB 1524 is a good place to start.
