Cambridge, MA — Today, former U.S. Senator Alan Simpson, sent a letter to fellow Republicans urging them to vote Yes on Question 2 to advance an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to combat corruption and protect the rights of Americans to be represented on equal terms. The proposed amendment will enable reasonable limits on election spending by corporations, unions and wealthy interests, and secure the right of all Americans to vote and be represented on equal terms.
“I’m sending greetings from Wyoming to my fellow Republicans in Massachusetts. I joined American Promise and have been assisting with a ballot effort here in Wyoming to advance a Constitutional amendment to place the power back in the hands of the American people rather than the big donors and special interests. I am aware that you have a ballot measure on this issue as well, and I earnestly urge you to vote Yes on 2. This problem of a glut of money dominating our political system is simply too big to leave to one party or the other. This Constitutional amendment is a vital opportunity to assure lasting reform. This is definitely not a partisan issue, but an American issue. Vote Yes on 2, and let’s clean up this dark money mess in Massachusetts, Wyoming, and all across the nation.” —Alan K. Simpson, U.S. Senator, Wyo. (Retired)
A Yes on 2 vote will establish a non-partisan Citizens Commission to provide credible information to Massachusetts citizens about how money is influencing, elections and public policy; seek input from as many Massachusetts citizens as possible about their hopes, concerns and recommended language for the amendment and reforms, and ensure that elected representatives work across partisan lines to advance an effective amendment in Congress and subsequent ratification by Massachusetts
YES ON 2/People Govern, Not Money is a volunteer-led signature gathering effort working to advance the 28th Amendment to affirm that We the People – not big money, not unions, not corporations – govern the United States. The group includes Massachusetts citizens of various political affiliations, demographic backgrounds from towns across the state, volunteering their time to make the 28th Amendment a reality.
