Victory in the Wyoming House

The 28th Amendment got a major boost in Wyoming last week when the Wyoming House of Representatives passed House Joint Resolution 8, calling on Congress to pass an amendment to get big money out of politics. The Free and Fair Elections Resolution now heads over to the Wyoming Senate.

If the resolution passes the Senate, it would make Wyoming the 20th state to formally call for the 28th Amendment. Nineteen states have already formally called on Congress to pass an Amendment, with many more poised to join the list.

Wyoming Promise, the American Promise Association in Wyoming, played a key role in the success of the Free and Fair Elections Resolution through grassroots action and advocacy.

โ€œWe are thrilled that the voices of the 20,255 Wyoming voters who signed our petitions were heard loud and clear in the House tonight,โ€ Ken Chestek, chair of Wyoming Promise, said after the vote.

Wyoming citizens can help ensure the success of the resolution in the Senate by calling their State Senators. Continued grassroots action is crucial to success in the Senate.

โ€œWe know there is some resistance to this bill in the Senate,โ€ Chestek said, โ€œSo our work is not done. We look forward to presenting the facts to our Senators over the next few weeks to encourage them to join their fellow legislators in the House to elevate the voices of actual voters over the very loud โ€˜voicesโ€™ of corporations and other artificial entities which cannot vote.โ€
